Toxic Chlorine Gas Leak Leaves 19-Year-Old Boy Critical, Seven Others in ICUs A 19-year-old boy remains in critical condition with severe respiratory distress after inhaling toxic chlorine gas that leaked from a water treatment plant tank in Collector’s Colony, Godhani, on August 25, 2026. The incident occurred early Monday, prompting emergency evacuations and hospitalizations. The boy was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at IGGMCH before being transferred to KIMS-Kingsway for advanced critical care. He is currently on a ventilator and receiving supportive treatment. District officials confirmed that seven additional residents required ICU admission at private hospitals, including three at Max Healthcare. Among them is a 60-year-old cancer patient also on ventilator support. Two young boys, aged 2 and 3, were admitted to IGGMCH NICU and placed on ventilators, though their conditions stabilized, and the ventilators were later removed. Of the 56 individuals hospitalized, 11 were discharged by the end of the day. The majority of patients were treated at IGGMCH (15), Max Healthcare (13 adults and one infant), Sparsh Hospital (13), and Alright Hospital (11). Three additional patients were admitted to other facilities. Officials noted that the remaining stable patients are in general wards and will remain under observation for at least one day. Residents described the chaotic scene as they fled the area after detecting the toxic smell. Prashant Laxame, a 42-year-old salon owner, recounted how the gas leak disrupted his family’s sleep. “We were all asleep when the smell became unbearable. We realized it was an emergency and evacuated our family,” he said.
