Daycare Owner Turns Herself In After Alleged Abuse Charges A 51-year-old daycare owner in Kingston turned herself into authorities on Friday after being charged with multiple counts of abuse against toddlers in her care, according to police. Karen Rezendes, who operated Oh Nana’s Daycare from her home, faced two felony charges of assault and battery on a child causing injury and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She also faced seven misdemeanor counts of assault and battery. Rezendes pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Plymouth District Court, where she was ordered held on $7,500 cash bail. She is scheduled to return to court on September 4. Authorities allege Rezendes engaged in abusive behavior toward multiple children aged 1 to 4 between July and August. The alleged incidents include shoving a child to the ground, striking a child with kitchen utensils, slamming a child against a counter, and locking a child in the attic. Rezendes had previously informed parents on July 4 that she was closing the daycare “until further notice” due to a “personal matter,” according to court records. The next day, allegations of abuse were reported to Kingston police. One girl, referred to as “Nana Karen” by investigators, told police she was hit and thrown into the attic by Rezendes, resulting in “bad blood” on her head. She also claimed Rezendes hit her in the face with her hand and on the head with a bowl.
