Teen’s Complaint Helps Authorities Stop Two Child Marriages in Nagpur A 19-year-old man’s plans to marry two underage girls were thwarted by authorities in Nagpur after a teenage girl came forward with a complaint of sexual exploitation. The incident unfolded in Kondhali, where officials uncovered a disturbing chain of events involving the youth’s attempts to arrange two child marriages, both of which were halted just in time. The case began when a minor girl approached the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) to report that the accused had lured her with promises of marriage and subjected her to repeated sexual abuse. After abandoning the victim, the man allegedly started preparations to marry another minor in Wardha. Acting on the complaint, a joint team of DCPU officials, Childline 1098, the Zilla Parishad education department, and Kondhali police conducted a raid at the accused’s residence. During the search, authorities discovered that the accused’s 17-year-old sister had already been engaged, and her marriage was set to take place. The team immediately intervened, halting the ceremony and preventing the second child marriage. Both cases were addressed under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, with further legal proceedings underway. District child protection officer Mustaq Pathan confirmed that an FIR is being registered in the sexual exploitation case at Kondhali police station. The victim’s statement will be recorded before the case proceeds, and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act will be invoked. Efforts to locate the absconding accused are ongoing.#district_child_protection_unit #teenage_girl #childline_1098 #zilla_parishad_education_department #kondhali_police
