Gallup Poll Reveals Declining American Support for LGBTQ+ Issues A new Gallup poll indicates that public support for LGBTQ+ issues in the United States has plateaued and begun to decline, with fewer Americans expressing approval for same-sex marriage or viewing gay relationships as morally acceptable. The survey, released on Wednesday, highlights a significant shift in attitudes, particularly among Republican voters, while Democratic support has remained relatively stable. The poll reveals that 65% of Americans still support legal same-sex marriage, a figure that has dropped six percentage points from its peak in 2022 and 2023. Meanwhile, moral acceptance of gay and lesbian relationships has fallen to 62%, the lowest level since 2016. Public acceptance of gender transition has also declined sharply, with only 38% of Americans believing changing one's gender is morally acceptable—a decrease of eight points since 2021. A majority of 57% now view gender transition as morally wrong. The decline in support is most pronounced among Republicans, who have seen their approval of same-sex marriage drop to 37%, down from 55% in 2021-2022. Independents also experienced a six-point decline, reaching 67%, while Democrats have maintained steady support at 87% since 2022. Similar trends are observed in attitudes toward the morality of same-sex relationships, with Republican acceptance falling 21 points to 35%, returning to levels last seen in 2005-2014. Independents’ approval dropped eight points to 64%, while Democrats’ support remained unchanged at 81%. The survey, conducted as part of Gallup’s annual Values and Beliefs survey in early May, attributes the decline in support to conservative pushback against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.#democrats #republicans #gallup #same_sex_marriage #lgbtq_plus
