Delhi Metro Launches Week-Long Safety Drive for Lifts and Escalators The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated a week-long awareness campaign across its stations to promote safer commuter behavior, focusing on the proper use of lifts, escalators, and travelators. The initiative, running from April 7 to April 13, aims to educate passengers on preventive measures and best practices to minimize accidents. This campaign marks a first-of-its-kind effort in India’s metro sector, emphasizing the importance of passenger responsibility in maintaining safety within the country’s largest vertical mobility network. The Delhi Metro operates an extensive system of 965 lifts, 1,297 escalators, and 42 travelators across its stations. Officials highlighted the scale of the network, noting that Kashmere Gate Metro Station holds a global distinction as the only station with 53 escalators, the highest number at any metro station worldwide. This underscores the critical need for safety measures, as the system serves millions of passengers daily. The campaign includes a variety of engagement strategies to ensure widespread awareness. DMRC staff, alongside scout and guide volunteers, have been deployed at high-traffic stations, particularly near lifts and escalators, to interact with commuters. They are holding placards and distributing leaflets that outline essential safety guidelines. Additionally, street plays (nukkad nataks) are being organized at major stations to communicate safety messages in an accessible and engaging manner. These efforts are designed to reinforce key safety practices, such as standing clear of lift doors, avoiding forceful opening of equipment, holding handrails on escalators, keeping feet within marked lines, and ensuring children are always supervised.#delhi_metro_rail_corporation #kashmere_gate_metro_station #safety_awareness_week #escalators #lifts
