Krishna Janmashtami 2026: Special Rituals with Tulsi for Blessings and Wealth The festival of Krishna Janmashtami, celebrated on the eighth day of the dark half of the month of Bhadrapada, is considered a sacred occasion to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees believe that offering Tulsi (Holy Basil) during the rituals ensures divine grace, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. The following practices are recommended to honor the deity and invite blessings into the home. A key ritual involves incorporating Tulsi leaves into the offerings made to Lord Krishna. According to traditional beliefs, the deity does not accept a puja without Tulsi leaves. Devotees are advised to include a fresh Tulsi leaf in the prasad (offering) of items like paneer, ghee, or sweets, as it is believed to symbolize the deity’s favor. Another significant practice is the lighting of a pure ghee lamp in front of the Tulsi plant during the evening of the festival. While chanting the mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya," devotees should perform 11 or 21 rounds of circumambulation around the plant. This is said to purify the home of negative energies and bring peace and happiness. To invoke blessings for personal desires, devotees are encouraged to present a new red chunri (scarf) to the Tulsi plant and tie a kalawa (a sweet made of jaggery and ghee) around its stem. This act is believed to fulfill wishes and attract divine favor. If the Tulsi plant shows signs of majaari (a type of pest), devotees are advised to gently remove a few affected leaves and offer them to Lord Krishna’s feet. This is considered a remedy for financial difficulties and a way to restore prosperity.
