The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m., when agents attempted to arrest Araujo, whom ICE described as a Mexican national and an “illegal alien” targeted as part of a “targeted enforcement operation.” ICE stated that Araujo “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer,” leading to the officer firing his weapon in self-defense. Arau’s son, Ronaldo Salgado, told Telemundo Houston that his father had been out that morning looking for workers in the area.
