Akshaya Tritiya Boom: Jewellery Sales At Rs 150Cr, 2K Vehicles Sold Nagpur’s markets experienced a surge in activity during Akshaya Tritiya, a revered Hindu festival celebrated for its auspiciousness and cultural significance. The day, considered a "complete muhurat" and ideal for initiating new ventures or purchasing valuables, saw a citywide rush as residents engaged in shopping for jewellery, vehicles, and consumer goods. Key commercial hubs such as Sarafa market in Itwari, Mahal market, and Dharampeth main market remained bustling well into the night, reflecting the enthusiasm of buyers. The festival, rooted in the belief of "Akshaya" or eternal prosperity, prompted a wave of spending across various sectors. Jewellery sales, a hallmark of the occasion, reached an estimated Rs 150 crore in Nagpur district, surpassing last year’s figure of Rs 125 crore. Despite gold prices hitting 1.54 lakh per tola for 24-carat gold, demand remained robust. Gold rates on Sunday stood at Rs 1,54,200 per 10 grams, while silver was priced at Rs 2,59,800 per kilogram. Industry leaders attributed the high demand to the cultural importance of the day, with many households conducting poojas in the early afternoon and delaying shopping until the evening. All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council president Rajesh Rokade highlighted the sustained interest, noting that customers waited post-pooja to make purchases. "Even high prices did not deter buyers, reflecting the deep-rooted significance of Akshaya Tritiya," he remarked. Retailers in Dharampeth, such as Aditya Dhere, reported steady footfall as families bought clothes and gifts.#nagpur #akshaya_tritiya #sarafa_market #mahal_market #dharampeth_main_market
