The raid, carried out by the food safety department, revealed the sweets were prepared under unhygienic conditions, with visuals showing infestations of flies and insects. Investigations found that starch was mixed into paneer to create the sweets, while chemical additives were allegedly used during the manufacturing process. Samples of the seized goods and paneer were sent to laboratories for testing to assess contamination levels and potential health risks. Officials confirmed that legal action, including possible cancellation of food licenses and police cases, would follow based on the test results. The facility, which served as a central storage unit, was reportedly supplying contaminated sweets to multiple retail outlets across the region. In a separate development, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) intensified its food safety crackdown, targeting multiple outlets in Mumbai. On August 19, five eateries were shut down, followed by a ban on the sale of loose edible oil on August 20. By August 24, the FDA suspended the licenses of nine outlets, including five MCA establishments, after inspections uncovered hygiene violations such as dirty floors, poor food storage, refrigerator ice buildup, and inadequate staff hygiene.
