GMCH Dean Under Scrutiny as Government Orders Probe into Procurement Irregularities Maharashtra’s medical education minister Hasan Mushrif announced on Wednesday that an inquiry has been initiated to investigate allegations of serious irregularities and mismanagement at Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur. The probe, led by the medical education commissioner, was ordered on June 23 following concerns raised by legislators during the monsoon session of the state assembly. Mushrif emphasized that while the government has acknowledged the hospital’s achievements, including the introduction of advanced facilities like MRI, nuclear medicine, transplant centers, and robotic surgeries, the allegations of procurement misconduct require thorough examination. The minister addressed these concerns in response to queries from South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate, who demanded that GMCH dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye be placed on forced leave during the investigation to prevent interference. Mate also questioned whether blood samples from the hospital were being sent to private labs, highlighting potential lapses in transparency. Other MLAs from Nagpur raised a range of issues, including alleged procurement anomalies, staff shortages, inadequate patient facilities, and delays in diagnostic services at the tertiary care hospital. Among the most serious allegations was the claim that medical supplies were being procured through administrative channels rather than technical experts, raising concerns about transparency and oversight. Legislators also criticized the functioning of the purchasing department and the misuse of public funds allocated for healthcare infrastructure and equipment.#devendra_fadnavis #govt_medical_college_hospital #maharashtra_medical_education_minister #mohan_mate #dr_raj_gajbhiye
