HSRP Deadline Extended to June 30, Maharashtra Warns of Strict Enforcement Starting July 1 The Maharashtra state transport department has announced an extension of the deadline for mandatory installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. The revised deadline, set for June 30, was announced in a fresh circular issued by transport commissioner Rajesh Narvekar. This follows the acknowledgment that only approximately 50% of eligible vehicles across the state had complied with the earlier deadline of December 31, 2025. The extension aims to address the low compliance rate and ensure broader adherence to the security measure. The department has warned that enforcement squads, referred to as "flying squads," will begin strict actions from July 1 against vehicles found without HSRPs. However, vehicle owners who book installation appointments before June 30 will be exempt from punitive measures, even if the actual installation is completed after the deadline. This provision is intended to provide a grace period for those who may face logistical challenges in meeting the revised deadline. Non-compliant vehicles will face restrictions on several RTO-related services, including ownership transfer, hypothecation updates, re-registration, alteration approvals, and permit renewals. Fitness certificate renewals, however, have been temporarily exempted from these restrictions. The department emphasized that these measures are part of a broader effort to enforce compliance and ensure the security of vehicle registration records. Regional compliance data from Nagpur highlights the progress made in the state.
