The controversy echoes a previous situation in 2024, when Day wore a vest with the slogan "No. 313. Malbon Golf Championship" during his practice round. The club had asked him to remove the garment, and Day complied, stating that his agent received instructions to do so. This year’s incident appears to follow a similar pattern, with Day’s agent reportedly informing him of Augusta National’s request. Malbon Golf founder Stephen Malbon defended the design, explaining that the bird-themed outfits were inspired by Native American beliefs.
