NMC unveils Rs 2 Crore for Marbat-Badgya festival Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has allocated Rs 2 crore for the city’s historic Marbat-Badgya festival this year, marking the first time the civic body has made such a substantial financial commitment to the traditional event. The decision, approved through the NMC budget following a proposal by standing committee chairperson Shivani Dani Wakhare, aims to elevate the 145-year-old festival into a professionally organized cultural attraction for both domestic and international tourists. The allocation will fund a range of initiatives to enhance the festival’s infrastructure and visibility. Mayor Neeta Thakre reviewed the preparations at a special meeting held at the Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Standing Committee Hall, where she directed the formation of a special coordination committee. This committee will include representatives from civic departments, police, and festival organizers to ensure seamless execution of the event. Key priorities include clearing the procession route of potholes, hanging electrical wires, and other obstructions. The NMC plans to provide electricity, drinking water, and stages at prominent locations along the route, while also setting up welcome gates to manage crowd flow. Traffic police will collaborate with the civic body to regulate movement during the procession. Dani Wakhare emphasized the goal of increasing public participation and showcasing Nagpur’s heritage to a broader audience.
