2026 Open Championship Qualifying Process Unveiled: Path to Royal Birkdale G.C. The 154th Open Championship, set to take place at Royal Birkdale G.C. from 16-19 July 2026, will feature 156 players competing for a spot in the prestigious tournament. The majority of the field will consist of exempt players, including recent major champions, professional event winners, and top-ranked golfers. The remaining participants will qualify through the Open Qualifying Series, Regional Qualifying, Final Qualifying, or the new Last Chance Qualifying event. Regional Qualifying will occur on Monday, 22 June 2026, at 16 venues across Great Britain and Ireland. Approximately 2,095 players, including 991 amateurs, are scheduled to compete. Entry requires a handicap index no higher than 0.4 (scratch) or a WAGR ranking within the top 2,000 from 2024-25, along with a £200 fee. Each venue will allocate qualifying spots based on performance, with 7-10 places typically available per site. The leading amateur performances and qualifiers from these events will be highlighted, with some reserves advancing to Final Qualifying. Final Qualifying will take place on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at four venues: Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, and West Lancashire. A total of 288 players will compete, with 72 at each site. Exempt players include those with past achievements in major tournaments or professional events, while the rest will have advanced through Regional Qualifying. The Open Qualifying Series will award 26 spots to the top-performing amateurs in 15 professional tour events across 13 countries in 2025 and 2026. The Last Chance Qualifying event, an invitational 12-player competition, will be held on Monday, 13 July 2026, at Royal Birkdale G.C. over two rounds of nine holes.#mason_howell #open_championship #royal_birkdale_g_c #matt_moloney #the_r_a
