Taiwan's Benchmark Stock Index Plummets Over 1,000 Points Amid Tech Sector Sell-Off Taiwan's benchmark stock index, the Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX), closed sharply lower on Tuesday, dropping 1,077.28 points or 2.31% to 45,479.11. The decline followed a volatile session where the index fluctuated by over 1,500 points. Total trading turnover reached NT$1.17 trillion (US$36.4 billion), while the combined market capitalization of listed companies stood at NT$1448.44 trillion. The downturn was driven by broad selling pressure across major tech and electronics sectors, with key index-weighted stocks leading the decline. Leading companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) fell 0.81% to NT$2,440, while MediaTek, trading ex-dividend, closed down 1.71% at NT$4,030. Delta Electronics dropped 5.26% to NT$1,890, and Foxconn fell 2.07% to NT$237. Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) declined 4.12% to NT$651. The downturn was exacerbated by reports highlighting potential production bottlenecks for Nvidia's Kyber NVL144 rack system, which could delay its launch. This news sent Copper-clad laminate (CCL) maker Elite Material down 4.66% to NT$5,220, as CCL is a critical material for high-speed PCBs used in AI servers. PCB manufacturers also faced significant declines, with Kinsus Interconnect Technology, Lincstech, and AboCom Systems each falling over 4%. Passive component manufacturers, which had previously outperformed the broader market, were among the weakest performers. Yageo, Walsin Technology, and Holy Stone Enterprise all closed at daily limit-downs, while Lelon Electronics and King Core Electronics lost approximately 8%. Power semiconductor stocks also declined, indicating continued rotation of short-term funds out of previously strong sectors.#foxconn #taiwan_semiconductor_manufacturing_company #media_technology #delta_electronics
