Two Arrested with Fake Currency Notes Worth Rs8.65 Crore in Nagpur The Nagpur Rural police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) arrested two individuals for attempting to circulate counterfeit currency notes printed in the name of a fictitious “Children’s Bank of India.” The total face value of the fake currency bundles seized from the suspects amounts to Rs8.65 crore. The operation, which unfolded on Thursday, was initiated following a tip-off and culminated in a high-speed chase along the Nagpur-Wardha highway between Asola and Sawangi areas. The suspects, identified as Afroz Khan Jamirullah Khan, a resident of Yavatmal, and Irshad Jumman Sheikh, from Wardha, were traveling in a white car when police signaled them to stop. The driver allegedly attempted to flee but was intercepted after a chase. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 2,300 bundles of counterfeit notes, including 1,500 bundles of Rs500 notes, 350 bundles of Rs200 notes, and 450 bundles of Rs100 notes. The fake currency was concealed within the bundles, which were partially covered with genuine Indian currency notes to mimic authenticity. In addition to the counterfeit notes, police seized Rs5,600 in cash, a car valued at approximately Rs2.50 lakh, and four mobile phones worth Rs24,000. The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at around Rs3.48 lakh. Police Inspector Ankush Mane oversaw the operation, which is currently under investigation by senior superintendent of police Harssh A Poddar and additional superintendent of police Anil Mhaske.
