Vaishno Devi Medical College Seeks Fresh Nod From Commission To Restart MBBS Course The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in Jammu has submitted a new application to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for approval to resume its MBBS program for the 2026-27 academic year. The request follows the NMC’s earlier revocation of the college’s recognition due to deficiencies in infrastructure, faculty strength, and clinical resources. The college claims it has addressed the issues raised by the commission and is now seeking permission to restart the course. Officials stated that the college submitted an online application to the NMC, including payment of approximately Rs 8 lakh in inspection and processing fees. They emphasized that the discrepancies previously flagged by the commission have been resolved, and the institution is now prepared for a potential NMC inspection scheduled around April or May. Currently, the college has one main academic building operational and plans to expand further. The integration of the Narayana Superspecialty Hospital at Kakryal near Katra into the institute’s management is expected to begin soon. Once fully operational, the hospital’s staff, including doctors, will be under the institute’s control from April 1, enhancing clinical resources and teaching capacity. The hospital, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2016, offers treatment across over 20 medical specialties. The college’s initial MBBS admission cycle in 2025-26 sparked significant political controversy in Jammu. Of the 50 students admitted, 42 were Muslim and one was Sikh, a composition that drew protests from right-wing groups and local organizations.#prime_minister_narendra_modi #national_medical_commission #narayana_superspecialty_hospital #shri_mata_vaishno_devil_sangharsh_samiti
