Squatters and Illegal Booze Bars Flourish in Ganesh Nagar Residents of Ganesh Nagar, a residential area under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Hanuman Nagar zone, have raised serious concerns about illegal commercial activities, encroachments, and public nuisances that have disrupted their daily lives. Despite repeated complaints submitted to civic authorities, the residents claim no meaningful action has been taken to address the issues. In a formal representation submitted to the NMC commissioner and zonal authorities, they highlighted the growing presence of unregulated establishments, noise and air pollution, and overcrowding, all of which have compromised the safety and tranquility of the locality. The residents allege that a biryani center is operating illegally on a residential plot, leading to encroachment disputes. They stated that multiple complaints, Right to Information (RTI) applications, and appeals have been filed with the NMC and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), but no concrete measures have been implemented. Additionally, they pointed out that a nearby vacant plot has become a garbage dumping ground, with overgrown vegetation creating unhygienic conditions and fostering mosquito breeding. Another point of contention is a beer shop accused of allowing customers to consume alcohol on-site despite being licensed only for retail sales. The residents claim that the shop’s location has led to safety concerns for women and families in the area due to the crowds gathering outside. They also criticized an establishment for causing public nuisance through hookah consumption, smoking, and suspected encroachment of public space. Crowds outside the venue and cigarette smoke entering nearby homes have further degraded the residential environment.#nagpur_municipal_corporation #nagpur_improvement_trust #ganesh_nagar #nmc_commissioner #narendra_bawankar
