Mayor Pledges To Boost Fire Infrastructure On National Fire Service Day Nagpur: In a significant step toward enhancing emergency response capabilities, Mayor Nita Thakre emphasized the need to modernize and expand the city’s fire and emergency services department during a National Fire Service Day event organized by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Speaking at the ceremony held at the NMC headquarters, Thakre highlighted the challenges posed by the city’s rapid urbanization and the necessity of strengthening infrastructure to ensure timely and effective disaster management. The event, which coincided with the annual observance of National Fire Service Day, brought together civic officials, firefighters, and community representatives to commemorate the bravery of emergency responders. Thakre announced a comprehensive master plan to establish 22 fire stations across Nagpur, a move aimed at reducing response times and improving coverage in underserved areas. Currently, the city operates 12 fire stations, managed by a workforce of 120 personnel, far below the sanctioned strength of 872. The mayor underscored the urgency of addressing manpower shortages through fresh recruitment, stating that a robust fire department is critical to safeguarding public safety amid the city’s growing population and infrastructure demands. She also acknowledged the sacrifices of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, vowing to honor their legacy by investing in better resources and training. The ceremony featured a range of activities, including a floral tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial dedicated to fallen firefighters.#nagpur_municipal_corporation #fire_service #national_fire_service_day #mayor_nita_thakre #nmc_headquarters

Summer Sparks Surge in Fire Calls, Losses Exceed 85 Crore: Nagpur Data The summer months of March to May have emerged as the most critical period for fire incidents in Nagpur, with the city’s fire and emergency services department reporting a significant spike in both the frequency of calls and property damage. Data from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation reveals that between April 2025 and March 2026, the department responded to 867 fire incidents within city limits. The summer months alone accounted for a disproportionate share of these calls, with March recording the highest number at 160 incidents, followed by April (155) and May (88). Financial losses during this period were also substantial. April saw property damage amounting to 5.48 crore, while May recorded the highest losses at 7.21 crore. March, despite having the most fire calls, reported relatively lower losses of 1.92 crore, suggesting that many incidents were contained before causing extensive damage. Overall, the city’s fire incidents during this period resulted in property losses totaling 85.35 crore, with the department managing to save assets worth 70.11 crore. Outside the city limits, the fire department responded to 44 incidents, where properties worth 56.35 crore were damaged. Assets valued at 37.34 crore were saved, indicating that significant financial losses are not confined to urban areas alone. The data highlights the seasonal nature of fire risks, as monsoon and winter months saw fewer incidents. The report also notes that while smaller fires dominate the statistics, major and medium-scale fires during peak summer months contribute disproportionately to losses. This underscores the need for targeted fire safety measures ahead of the summer season.#summer_season #nagpur_municipal_corporation #nagpur_fire_department #national_fire_service_day #fire_incidents
