Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme Beneficiaries Selection Process in West Bengal The Ayushman Bharat health scheme, a central government initiative, began operations in West Bengal on August 16, 2026, with Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari inaugurating the program at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The scheme aims to provide healthcare benefits to approximately 1.43 crore families, covering around 6 crore residents in the state. Alongside the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the Chief Minister also launched a state-specific health insurance initiative to further expand healthcare access. Beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be selected through a two-step verification process. Initially, their names will be checked against the central government’s database, which includes information from the National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration card system. If a beneficiary’s name is found in this database, they can download their Ayushman Bharat card from the official website. However, if their name is not present, the state administration will cross-verify their details with the NFSA ration card records. For those whose names are not listed in the central database, an e-census (door-to-door verification) will be conducted to confirm their eligibility. If the e-census is successfully completed, beneficiaries will need to wait for their card to be issued, with updates available on the official website. If the e-census is not completed, further verification processes will be initiated.
