Air India Express: Value Carrier, Beyond OTP, Bullish on UAE Air India Express Chairman Nipun Aggarwal outlined the airline’s strategy to position itself as a “value carrier,” emphasizing the need to deliver enhanced customer experiences beyond mere on-time performance. Speaking at a panel discussion in Abu Dhabi on July 15, the day the airline’s inaugural flights from Navi Mumbai airport landed in the city, Aggarwal highlighted the evolving expectations of travelers, particularly Indian passengers, who now seek more than reliability and safety. “Earlier, on-time performance used to be aspirational for the customer. Now, OTP is becoming hygiene,” he said, noting that modern travelers demand a holistic experience. As part of the Tata Group, Air India Express operates over 500 daily flights with a fleet of more than 100 aircraft, connecting 43 domestic and 16 international destinations. Aggarwal, who also serves as Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, clarified that the airline is not positioning itself as a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) or a Full Service Carrier (FSC), but rather as a hybrid model—“LCC plus.” This approach aims to balance affordability with added value, such as improved amenities and service quality. The airline’s focus on the UAE market was a central theme of Aggarwal’s remarks. He described the region as a key growth area, noting that Air India Group, which includes Air India Express, holds the largest share of international traffic from India. “Around two-thirds of our capacity and revenues come from international travel, and within that, almost 50% is from West Asia,” he said. Of that West Asian market, two-thirds is attributed to the UAE. This emphasis on the UAE aligns with recent route expansions, including inaugural flights from Navi Mumbai, Indore, and Lucknow to Abu Dhabi.#air_india_express #uae #abu_dhabi #tata_group #nipun_aggarwal

Air India Group To Restore Full Middle East Network This Winter, Says Nipun Aggarwal Air India Group plans to fully restore its Middle East network for the winter season as geopolitical tensions in the region ease, according to Nipun Aggarwal, chairman of Air India Express and Air India’s chief commercial and transformation officer. Aggarwal told NDTV that most affected flights are already back on sale, and the airline aims to maintain its full network provided the situation continues to improve. The airline’s biggest challenge during recent Middle East tensions was not a decline in passenger demand but operational restrictions caused by airspace closures. Aggarwal emphasized that demand remains strong due to the large Indian diaspora, and the airline will continue deploying capacity as long as airports remain open and airspace is available. “Our biggest constraint has been the ability to fly, not passenger demand,” he said. Air India continuously monitors geopolitical developments and conducts operational risk assessments in coordination with airports and local authorities before deciding flight operations. Aggarwal noted that the situation is dynamic, requiring ongoing risk evaluations. “As long as we can operate safely, we will continue to deploy capacity,” he added. Rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices amid geopolitical tensions have limited the airline’s ability to shield itself from external shocks. Aggarwal acknowledged that ATF costs are driven by factors beyond the airline’s control, but the group is managing the situation through network redeployment, capacity adjustments, and operational efficiency. “We hope the worst is behind us,” he said, expressing cautious optimism.#air_india_express #uae #ndtv #air_india_group #nipun_aggarwal
