New Indian Passport Fees to Rise Starting July 1 The Ministry of External Affairs has announced significant increases in passport fees effective July 1, following amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980. The changes apply to both new applications and reissues, with fees for standard and expedited categories rising substantially. Adults applying under the normal category will now pay Rs 2,500 for a fresh 36-page passport or a reissue, up from Rs 1,500. Minors aged 15-18 applying under the adult section will face the same rate. For a 60-page passport, the normal category fee increases to Rs 3,500, a rise of Rs 1,500 from the previous amount. The Tatkaal category, which allows for faster processing, sees even steeper increases. A Tatkaal application for a 36-page passport will cost Rs 6,000, a Rs 2,000 jump from the current price. Similarly, a 60-page Tatkaal passport will now cost Rs 8,500, up from Rs 6,000. Applicants under 18 are limited to 36-page passports, with normal category fees at Rs 1,750 and Tatkaal at Rs 4,250. Replacement fees also rose, with a 36-page replacement passport now costing Rs 5,000 under the normal scheme and Rs 7,500 under Tatkaal. A 60-page replacement passport will cost Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,500, respectively. Additional charges apply for other services. Emergency Certificates remain free when applied for within India but cost $15 abroad. Identity certificates are priced at Rs 1,000, while certificates related to police clearance, surrender, or global entry programs cost Rs 750. These adjustments mark the first major overhaul of passport charges since 2012, as noted by the MEA.
