The sudden rainfall followed several days of muggy conditions, with Monday’s maximum temperature reaching 29.4 degrees Celsius—2 degrees above the normal average. The minimum temperature was also higher than usual, at 26.8 degrees Celsius, while relative humidity remained elevated, measuring 79% at both 8:30am and 5:30pm. The IMD bulletin highlighted the persistent high humidity levels as a contributing factor to the uncomfortable weather. Current weather systems affecting Gujarat include a low-pressure area over north Madhya Pradesh and a shear zone across central and north peninsular India. The IMD forecasted the formation of a new low-pressure system in the northwest Bay of Bengal starting August 12. This system is expected to bring varying weather conditions to different parts of the state. The IMD’s regional forecast indicated a higher likelihood of heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Aravali, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and Chhota Udepur. Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain were predicted in Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.
