The Election Commission of India (ECI) mandates that booth-level officers (BLOs) conduct door-to-door enumeration between June 30 and July 29 to ensure accurate voter registration. However, voters in areas like Thawre Colony, Indora, Misal Layout, Bhim Chowk, Kapil Nagar, and Sugat Nagar allege that BLOs have failed to carry out physical visits, violating ECI guidelines. Instead, some BLOs are reportedly distributing enumeration forms from public spaces, relying on local contacts to hand them out within neighborhoods, raising fears of incomplete or inaccurate records. The SIR process, critical for updating electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 elections, requires rigorous verification to prevent duplication, omissions, and errors. Residents claim that the absence of physical verification has left many unaware of the procedure, with some political parties setting up camps to collect forms, a practice that contradicts the ECI’s prescribed method. Dy district election officer Rachana Indurkar stated that instructions would be issued to ensure BLOs visit eligible voters’ homes, but residents remain skeptical.
