Nvidia to Invest $3.5 Billion in MediaTek, Expand Partnership Nvidia (NVDA.O) announced on Monday that it would invest $3.5 billion in Taiwan’s MediaTek (2454.TW), marking the latest step in deepening its financial and technological collaboration with the chipmaker. The deal, which involves Nvidia’s investment in MediaTek’s convertible bonds, aims to strengthen ties within the AI industry and expand access to Nvidia’s advanced computing systems. This move follows Nvidia’s earlier $105 billion guarantee for OpenAI’s Ohio data-center lease, which has drawn increased regulatory scrutiny over arrangements where chipmakers fund companies that drive demand for their AI products. As part of the agreement, MediaTek, the island’s largest chip designer, will allow customers to integrate Nvidia’s technology into their own AI chip designs. This technology, known as NVLink Fusion, provides ready-made connectors and specialized memory, enabling custom AI chips to seamlessly connect to Nvidia’s larger data-center systems. The innovation is designed to reduce engineering costs and time for customers, allowing them to focus on refining their own chip designs rather than building connections to Nvidia’s infrastructure from scratch. The partnership also extends to ongoing collaborations on chips for personal computers and AI-powered vehicles. MediaTek emphasized that Alphabet (GOOGL.O), a key AI infrastructure partner, participated in the bond offering, though the size of Alphabet’s investment was not disclosed. This collaboration builds on a broader relationship between the two companies, including the June launch of the RTX Spark PC chip, which aims to bring AI capabilities directly to laptops and desktops.#alphabet #nvidia #mediaTek #nvdao #googlo
