Employees Thank Government for Restoring Old Pension Scheme Government employees and teachers who were previously under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and were shifted to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) held a thanksgiving meeting in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, expressing gratitude to the Andhra Pradesh government for restoring retirement benefits under the OPS. The gathering, organized by employees and teachers from North Andhra, highlighted the state government’s decision to revive the pension scheme. MLC and Government Whip Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao addressed the meeting, stating that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had provided long-term financial security to thousands of government employees by restoring the OPS. He noted that the scheme would benefit approximately 11,000 families, ensuring financial stability for employees after retirement. Chiranjeevi Rao also mentioned that the government had extended OPS benefits to employees and teachers recruited under the 2004 notification but who joined service after 2004 due to technical reasons. This adjustment made them eligible for pension and gratuity, addressing a gap in their benefits. Telugu Desam state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao praised the Chief Minister for issuing Government Order (GO) No. 53, which facilitated the transition from the CPS to the OPS. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of employees and teachers, highlighting the significance of the reform in improving their post-retirement livelihoods.
