Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Hosts Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience Morgan Freeman, an Academy Award-winning actor and native of Mississippi, will narrate an immersive performance titled Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience as it makes its debut in his home state. The event, scheduled for Friday, March 27, will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Thalia Mara Hall, located at 255 E. Pascagoula Street in downtown Jackson. The show will blend music, storytelling, and cinematic elements to trace the origins and evolution of blues music, highlighting its cultural significance. Janet Reihle, president and executive director of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (MSO), emphasized the event’s deeper meaning. “Bringing the Morgan Freeman Symphonic Blues Experience to Mississippi is more than a performance—it’s a homecoming,” she said. “It’s a chance to celebrate who we are and where this music comes from. Mississippi is the birthplace of America’s music—not just the blues. Even in this performance, you hear that legacy in songs like Dust My Broom, recorded in Jackson and widely credited as a foundation of rock and roll. This is our Mississippi story, and it continues to shape music around the world.” The concert will feature the MSO alongside blues artists from Clarksdale’s Ground Zero Blues Club, a venue co-founded by Freeman and the late Bill Luckett. The collaboration between the orchestra and blues musicians aims to create a powerful fusion of genres, showcasing the enduring influence of blues on modern music. Freeman’s narration will guide the audience through a journey that connects the roots of blues to its global impact.#morgan_freeman #mississippi_symphony_orchestra #thalia_mara_hall #ground_zero_blues_club #park_avenue_artists
