Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Approves PM Fasal Bima Yojana for 2026-27 to Provide Economic Security to Farmers The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the continuation of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PM Fasal Bima Yojana) and the restructured weather-based crop insurance scheme for the fiscal year 2026-27. This decision aims to provide financial security to farmers affected by natural calamities, adverse weather conditions, and crop losses. The scheme will be implemented across all districts of the state, covering major crops for the Kharif season (2026) and the Rabi season (2026-27). Additionally, selected districts will see the application of the weather-based crop insurance scheme for commercial crops. Under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers will be required to pay a minimal premium. For Kharif crops, the premium rate is set at 2% of the insured amount, while for Rabi crops, it is 1.5%. For annual commercial crops, the farmer's share of the premium is capped at a maximum of 5%. The central and state governments will jointly bear the remaining premium cost, ensuring that farmers face minimal financial burden. The scheme mandates that insurance coverage be provided at the gram panchayat level for major crops. The restructured weather-based crop insurance scheme will be applicable in selected districts, allowing farmers to enroll one day before the onset of seasonal risks. The government has also fixed the deadline for enrollment, with Kharif crop insurance to be registered by July 31, 2026, and Rabi crop insurance by December 31, 2026. However, the Kharif enrollment deadline may be extended further, as per the department's guidelines.
