A Wife’s Gift, A Govt’s Support: How Akola Family Won Its Fight Against Liver Failure For nearly a year, Prashant Ingle, a 47-year-old cable technician from Akola, faced mounting despair as his severe liver failure progressed. Diagnosed in September-October 2025, he was told that only an immediate liver transplant could save his life. However, the procedure’s cost—estimated between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh—was far beyond the family’s financial capacity. As the sole breadwinner, Prashant supported his elderly parents, wife Varsha, their daughter pursuing higher education, and their son in Class X. His health declined after persistent abdominal pain, leading to medical investigations in Akola and Nagpur that confirmed extensive liver damage. Doctors urged an urgent transplant, but the family struggled to raise the funds. Hope emerged through a combination of public aid and personal sacrifice. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the CM’s Medical Assistance Fund approved ₹2 lakh for the treatment. Simultaneously, the Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell secured an additional ₹19.6 lakh from Tata Trust, bringing total financial support to ₹21.6 lakh. This funding made the costly surgery feasible. Yet, financial assistance alone could not guarantee survival. A compatible donor was essential, and Varsha, without hesitation, volunteered to donate a portion of her liver. Her decision became the pivotal moment in the family’s battle, shifting a dire prognosis into a tangible chance for recovery. The transplant was successfully performed at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on June 25, 2026.
