Dhanorkar Camp Triumphs in CMC Leadership Battle Chandrapur: The leadership dispute within the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) has been resolved in favor of the camp led by MP Pratibha Dhanorkar. The divisional commissioner, Vijayalakshmi Bidari, upheld the claim of the majority group of corporators, effectively ending the contest between the Dhanorkar faction and the rival camp led by MLA Vijay Wadettiwar. The ruling marked a significant setback for the faction supporting Rajesh Adur, who had sought to replace the existing leadership. The conflict centered on the election of the Congress party’s group leader in the municipal body. The Dhanorkar camp, comprising 16 corporators, elected Surendra Vitthalrao Adbale as their new leader, arguing that the previous leadership no longer enjoyed the support of most Congress members. In contrast, the Adur faction, which had backed Rajesh Adur, demanded the disqualification of the 16 corporators who defied the whip issued by the previous group leader. Bidari’s decision, communicated via email on June 17, reaffirmed the election of Adbale as the Congress group leader, replacing Adur immediately. The ruling cited the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment in Sunil Haribhau Kale vs Avinash Gulabrao Mardikar (Civil Appeal No. 2080 of 2015), which emphasized that once a municipal party or alliance is registered, it has the authority to elect or replace its leader through internal democratic processes. The court also clarified that no external political party could impose or nominate a leader, reinforcing the principle of self-governance within municipal groups.
