Their final communication with family came via a WhatsApp message on August 25, in which they confirmed they were safe. The Patankars were traveling with a group of over 60 people, including Anand Deshpande and his wife from Mumbai, as well as Dr. Milind Chitale and Jahnavi Chitale. Sanjay Patankar, their relative, reported that some group members managed to send messages from the Gyirong Immigration Facility on August 26. However, communication with the group collapsed amid the natural disaster, as the facility is located in the region most severely impacted by the floods. Sanjay Patankar stated that no members of the group have been located since August 26, despite efforts by the family and authorities. Out of the 60-plus individuals in the group, none have been accounted for, raising concerns about their safety. The family registered the couple as missing on the Maharashtra government’s portal on August 27 and has since maintained contact with officials. The flood crisis has disrupted travel and communication in the region, complicating rescue efforts. While over 100 Nagpur residents returned home from Nepal on Sunday, the Patankars and their companions remain unaccounted for.
