Indian Railways Introduces New Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules to Ease Crowds and Enhance Transparency Indian Railways has implemented significant changes to its Tatkal ticket booking process, effective August 1, 2026, to address long-standing issues of overcrowding at reservation counters and ensure a more transparent system for passengers. The reforms aim to streamline the booking process, reduce delays, and prevent fraudulent activities such as ticketing by unscrupulous agents. A key update involves the introduction of a token system at all reservation counters. Under this new rule, passengers will receive tokens at specific times to minimize physical queues and avoid chaotic scenes at ticket windows. For AC Tatkal bookings, tokens will be distributed between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, while non-AC and sleeper class tokens will be available around 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. This structured approach is designed to ensure orderly processing and reduce the time passengers spend waiting in line. The number of tokens issued per counter has also been limited to control the volume of bookings. For AC Tatkal tickets, each counter will issue a maximum of 10 tokens daily, while non-AC and sleeper class bookings will be capped at 15 tokens per counter. This measure is intended to prevent overloading of counters and ensure fair access to tickets for all passengers. Another critical change is the prohibition of token transfer. If a passenger receives a token in their name, it cannot be transferred to another individual. The token will only be valid for the person whose name it was issued under, ensuring that no one can exploit the system by passing tokens to others. This rule is expected to curb fraudulent practices and ensure that tickets are allocated based on legitimate demand.#indian_railways #aadhaar_card #tatkal_ticket_booking #reservation_counters #otp_verification
