While the hardware specifications are notable, Google emphasized its focus on Gemini Intelligence—a suite of AI features designed to understand user activities across apps and take proactive actions. Gemini Intelligence integrates data from messages, calendars, maps, and other Google services to suggest or execute tasks such as checking event availability, comparing travel options, or initiating restaurant reservations. The AI capabilities are embedded directly into the operating system, eliminating the need for standalone chatbots. Rick Osterloh, Google’s devices chief, told CNBC that AI could revolutionize smartphone interactions, stating, “For the last 10 to 15 years, not a lot has changed in how you use laptops and mobile phones.
