SEC Champion Georgia Prepares For Another Top Five Showdown ATHENS, GA.---The University of Georgia baseball team, reigning SEC champions, is set to face a challenging series against No. 4 Auburn this week, marking their second top-five SEC showdown of the season. The three-game series, beginning Thursday night at 8:02 p.m. ET, will be broadcast on the SEC Network and Georgia Bulldog Sports Network. Georgia, ranked as high as No. 4 this week, enters the matchup with a 41-11 overall record and a 21-6 mark in SEC play, riding a nine-game winning streak. The Bulldogs will face Auburn, which holds a 35-15 record and a 16-11 SEC slate, in a series that carries historical significance. The matchup follows Georgia’s recent dominance in league play, including back-to-back sweeps of Missouri and LSU in Athens. The Bulldogs have now secured 21 SEC wins, tying the school record for the most in a season. This achievement places Georgia in a select group of SEC Championship teams that reached 21 or more league victories after nine weeks of play since the conference expanded to a 30-game slate in 1996. Other teams in this category include Tennessee (22-5 in 2022), Vanderbilt (24-2 in 2013), South Carolina (22-5 in 2000), and LSU (21-5 in 1997). Georgia’s road performance has been particularly strong, with a 9-3 record in SEC away games. The Bulldogs’ success has been bolstered by standout performances from junior catcher Daniel Jackson, who is aiming to join an elite group of NCAA Division I players with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases in a single season. Jackson, batting .384 with 25 HR, 74 RBI, and 24 SB, is the first SEC catcher to reach a 20-20 season and the fifth overall player in league history to do so. His achievements have drawn comparisons to UNC’s Vance Honeycutt, who accomplished the feat in 2024.#university_of_georgia #auburn #wes_johnson #sec_champions #daniel_jackson
