Senior Home Collapse in BH Kills One, Buries 14 Others A collapse of a senior care facility in Belo Horizonte left at least one person dead and 14 others buried under the rubble early Friday. The incident occurred in the Jardim Vitória neighborhood of the city’s Nordeste region. Firefighters confirmed the tragedy at 6 a.m., stating that 29 individuals were inside the building at the time of the collapse. The structure housed the Pró-Vida Elderly Home, along with a residential unit and a terrace. According to the fire department, nine residents managed to escape unharmed as they were not in the collapsed section. Of the remaining 20 people, six have been located, with one confirmed fatality. The victim’s identity remains unknown. Firefighters reported that 14 individuals were still trapped under the debris at the time of the update, though one of them was found conscious and responsive. “We have already identified one victim and are working to rescue them as quickly as possible,” said Tenente-Coronel Viana, a spokesperson for the fire service. The emergency call was received around 1:45 a.m. on the Rua Soldado Mário Neto. Initial reports described the building as a three-story structure with a basement. Viana noted that the cause of the collapse remains under investigation, with no preliminary conclusions available. A teacher, Taís Lavisck, who claims to be a friend of the facility’s owner, stated that the building had been in operation for over a decade and showed no visible signs of structural issues. “Visitors couldn’t see any indications of a potential collapse,” she said, emphasizing that the facility had been stable for years. Authorities continue to search for the remaining trapped individuals, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety of those still buried.#belo_horizonte #senior_home_collapse #jardim_vitoria #pro_vida_elderly_home #tenente_coronel_viana
