Court Grants Time-Served Release in Hit-and-Run Case A Lafayette County Circuit Court judge has revised the sentence of Seth Garron Rokitka, a man convicted of killing Ole Miss student Walker Fielder and critically injuring another student in a 2022 hit-and-run incident. The amended order, filed April 8, 2026, grants Rokitka immediate release after determining he had demonstrated rehabilitation while incarcerated. The court reduced his original 10-year sentence to time served, with the remaining term suspended pending future good behavior. Rokitka initially pleaded guilty in August 2025 to aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. The charges stemmed from the October 17, 2022, crash that resulted in Fielder’s death and injuries to another student. The original sentencing ordered the 10-year term for the leaving-the-scene charge to run consecutively with a five-year suspended sentence on the aggravated DUI charge. However, the court’s revised order now allows Rokitka to serve only the time he has already spent in custody, with probation and supervision conditions. Judge Kent Smith, who authored the amended sentencing order, stated that Rokitka’s request for reconsideration was granted due to his “worthy of reconsideration” status. The judge cited Rokitka’s institutional conduct, education efforts, and participation in treatment programs during his incarceration. The order noted that Rokitka had been jailed since his arrest in October 2022 and had served nearly two years by April 2026. Under the revised terms, Rokitka’s release is contingent on completing 50 hours of community service with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and undergoing random alcohol and drug testing.#ole_miss #lafayette_county_circuit_court #seth_garron_rokitka #walker_fielder #judge_kent_smith
