Major Restructuring of Karnataka Police Department Under New Chief Following the assumption of power by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the police department have gained momentum. The administration is reportedly aiming to reassign key officials across critical departments, including the Bangalore city police commissioner, intelligence bureau, legal and order divisions, CID, and internal security units. This restructuring is seen as part of broader efforts to modernize governance and enhance administrative efficiency. The proposed changes include potential reassignments of senior officers in pivotal roles. For instance, the position of the Bangalore city police commissioner is under consideration for a shift, with the possibility of reassigning B. Dayanand, who was previously implicated in the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium incident. If Dayanand is moved, senior police officer Sharmachandran may take over the role, as he is believed to have maintained a close working relationship with Shivakumar. The intelligence bureau’s head is also a focal point of the restructuring. Current head Laburam is reportedly under consideration for reassignment, with the possibility of replacing him with Hitenendran, the legal and order division’s additional director general. This move is expected to align the intelligence bureau with the state government’s priorities, as the role of the bureau includes providing critical intelligence to the chief minister. The restructuring extends to other departments, including the internal security division, CID, and the Karnataka State Road Police (KSRP). Officials suggest that reassignments will be based on proximity to the chief minister and the ability to ensure smooth administrative coordination.#d_k_shivakumar #b_dayanand #sharmachandran #laburam #hitenendran
