From High-Security Barracks to Dark Cells: Experience Life Behind Bars for Rs 1,000 The Chanchalguda Central Prison in Telangana has launched an immersive program called “Feel the Jail Experience,” allowing visitors to temporarily live as inmates for a day or night. The initiative, organized by the prisons department and the Prisons Museum, offers participants a glimpse into the harsh realities of incarceration, including sleeping on simple cots, eating prison food, and experiencing the routines of a prison environment. Visitors can choose to spend 12 hours or 24 hours in the facility, with fees set at Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The program is designed to foster empathy and awareness about the correctional system. The experience includes three recreated prison cells, with one specifically modeled after high-security double-protection barracks used for housing dangerous criminals, Naxalites, and terror accused. These cells are minimalistic, featuring only a bed, bedsheet, blanket, plate, glass, water pot, and a partially covered open bathroom. The setup aims to replicate the stark and uncomfortable conditions of real prison life. Additionally, the museum features a dark isolation room, where visitors are confined in complete darkness for as long as they wish, simulating the psychological distress of prolonged confinement. The Chanchalguda Prison Museum itself serves as a historical and educational hub, showcasing artifacts such as old shackles, chains, gallows, and recreated barracks. One notable exhibit is an upside-down tree trunk painted in earthy tones, symbolizing themes of suffering, survival, and transformation.#shiv_pratap_shukla #chanchalguda_central_prison #prisons_museum #dr_soumya_mishra #kalapani_jail
