Fit India Carnival 2026 begins in Delhi with star participation The national capital kicked off the Fit India Carnival 2026 on Sunday with a vibrant celebration of health, sports, and community spirit at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The event, organized under the Fit India Movement, attracted leading athletes, celebrities, fitness enthusiasts, and hundreds of citizens, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The carnival was officially launched by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, who emphasized the importance of making fitness a people’s movement. “The Fit India Movement aims to encourage every citizen to adopt fitness as a daily habit. Events like this bring communities together and inspire youth to lead healthier lives,” Sahu stated during the inauguration. Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary, Sports, added that fitness should be an integral part of daily life, highlighting the carnival’s role in promoting active lifestyles through diverse activities. The opening day featured a star-studded lineup of sporting icons and public figures. Among the attendees were Arjuna Award-winning para-athlete Simran Sharma, Olympian judoka Garima Chaudhary, heptathlon champion Nandini Agasara, fencing star Taniksha Khatri, and football internationals Ashalata Devi and Aditi Chauhan. Renowned chess player Tania Sachdev was also honored for her contributions to Indian sports. Public personalities and fitness advocates, including actor Milind Soman and endurance runner Ankita Konwar, were felicitated as Fit India Champions.
