Police seized the illicit substance after it was found hidden in the loft of the facility, sparking concerns about the civic body’s ability to safeguard its assets from criminal exploitation. The incident has intensified calls for stricter oversight and improved maintenance of public infrastructure, with citizens demanding accountability from local authorities. The discovery came days after marijuana plants were reportedly found in an NMC garden in Ajni’s Gajanan Nagar. Police acted swiftly, raiding the Smart Toilet in Nandanvan and uncovering ganja allegedly stored in its loft. TOI reporters noted that the main entrance of the facility was locked, but empty liquor bottles littered the area, suggesting the site had been frequented by anti-social elements prior to the police intervention. A spread mattress and water can were found in the loft, which could be accessed via a staircase. However, the loft remained unsecured during the visit, and the door was left ajar, raising questions about the adequacy of NMC’s security measures. Residents expressed frustration over the situation, with Khushagra Joshi, a Nandanvan resident, criticizing the corporation for its inability to manage its properties. “This is appalling. If NMC can’t handle all of its properties, then it should lease them out to private entities completely.
