Upgraded Chhindwara Railway Station Showcases MP’s Tribal Art The redevelopment of Chhindwara railway station under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has been completed, transforming the key railway hub into a modern passenger facility while highlighting the region’s cultural heritage. The project, executed by the South East Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, was completed at a cost of 17.23 crore. The initiative aims to blend contemporary infrastructure with local identity, incorporating representations of Patalkot, Deogarh Fort, and Chhindwara’s tribal heritage. The upgraded station features a modern facade inspired by local architecture and cultural motifs, complemented by two grand entrance gates, a large canopy, and CNC-designed decorative panels. Energy-efficient LED lighting and 3D artwork depicting local tourist attractions further enhance the aesthetic. An advanced CCTV surveillance system has been installed to improve security. Passenger amenities have been significantly upgraded, including air-conditioned first and second-class waiting halls, modern toilets, improved drinking water facilities, a food plaza, a baby feeding centre, digital signage, and an advanced train information system. To improve passenger movement and safety, a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge and six platform shelters have been constructed. The station also includes ample parking space and redesigned entry and exit points to ease traffic flow. Railway officials emphasized that the revamped station is expected to enhance passenger convenience, boost safety, and support tourism and economic development in the region. Wadsa-Armori Rail Line Set for Commissioning in Mid-May, Boosting Steel Hub in Gadchiroli Nagpur: Gadchiroli, once the epicentre of Maoist activity in Maharashtra, is undergoing a significant transformation as infrastructure projects and development initiatives gain momentum. A key milestone in this shift is the impending commissioning of the Wadsa-Armori rail line, a critical segment of the broader Wadsa-Gadchiroli broad gauge project. The South East Central Railway (SECR) is expected to complete the initial 20km stretch between Wadsa (Desaiganj) and Armori by the end of April or mid-May 2025. This development will drastically reduce travel time from approximately one hour by road to around 30 minutes by rail, offering a safer and more reliable alternative for commuters and freight movement. Divisional Railway Manager Deepak Kumar Gupta of SECR emphasized that while the physical work on the section is complete, the line requires clearance from the railway safety commission and final administrative approvals before it can be officially opened. The project, which has been implemented on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between the central and state governments, has faced delays due to challenges such as forest clearances, wildlife mitigation measures, and difficult terrain. Land acquisition for the project, covering around 220 hectares, was finalized, allowing construction to proceed at full speed. The Wadsa-Armori rail line is part of a larger 52-56 km project that has become increasingly vital as the steel industry intensifies its investments in Gadchiroli. South East Central Railway Achieves Record Freight Performance, Surpasses Revenue Targets Nagpur: The South East Central Railway (SECR) has achieved a significant milestone in its freight operations during the financial year 2025-26, transporting a total of 261.25 million tonnes of cargo and generating over Rs30,410 crore in revenue, according to Deepak Kumar Gupta, the divisional railway manager (DRM) of SECR Nagpur. This marks a 3.18% increase compared to the previous year’s 253 million tonnes, contributing substantially to Indian Railways’ nationwide freight target of 1,670 million tonnes. The railway division reported a notable rise in non-fare revenue, which surged by 57.64% to Rs4.10 crore, while parking earnings saw a dramatic 98% growth to Rs1.65 crore. These figures reflect the effectiveness of SECR’s commercial initiatives, including the operation of 10 special or parcel trains (34 trips) and the introduction of new services such as the ‘Bharat Gaurav’ tourist train. Additionally, the implementation of full digital ticket checking through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines and Station Ticket Booking Agents has enhanced passenger convenience and operational efficiency. Senior divisional commercial manager Dilip Singh and other officials were present at a press meet to highlight these achievements. In terms of engineering and infrastructure, SECR has adopted advanced technologies such as rail grinding and ultrasonic testing systems. The division also completed track renewal work on 196 km of railway lines and installed 27 level crossing gates along with 2,176 door detection systems.
