Wildlife Rescue, Rehab Centre to Come Up at Amravati Soon Maharashtra plans to establish a state-of-the-art Regional Wildlife Rescue, Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre at Bamboo Garden in Amravati, according to a recent announcement by forest minister Ganesh Naik during a Legislative Council meeting. The initiative follows a Calling Attention Notice raised by MLC Sanjay Khodke, who highlighted the urgent need for modern facilities to address rising wildlife accidents and smuggling threats in Amravati division’s five districts. Khodke emphasized that the region currently lacks specialized infrastructure to treat animals injured in road and rail accidents, electrocution, well falls, or human-wildlife conflicts, forcing injured wildlife to be transported to Nagpur for care. Khodke argued that Amravati’s strategic road connectivity to Akola, Washim, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Wardha makes it an ideal location for a divisional center. He cited a surge in rescue cases from key sanctuaries such as Melghat Tiger Reserve, Katepurna, Karanja-Sohol, Dnyanganga, Painganga, Lonar, Isapur, Tipeshwar, and the Pohra-Malkhed forest area. The proposed facility aims to serve all five districts of Amravati division, providing treatment and rehabilitation for injured, orphaned, and confiscated wildlife. In response to Khodke’s notice, Naik confirmed that the government has received a proposal from Amravati MLA Sulbha Khodke for the center at Bamboo Garden. He stated that the government is “positive” about the project and plans to approve it soon, allocating necessary funds. The initiative reflects efforts to address the growing challenges of wildlife conservation in the region, where human-wildlife conflicts and illegal activities have increasingly threatened animal populations.#amravati #ganesh_nai #wildlife_rescue #mlc_sanjay_khodke #sulbha_khodke
