Part-Time Teachers in Tamil Nadu Receive Salary Increment Amid Ongoing Protests Part-time teachers in Tamil Nadu have received a salary increment as part of a resolution to their long-standing demands for permanent positions. After years of protests, the state government has agreed to provide financial compensation to the educators, who have been advocating for job security and better pay. The decision comes after sustained efforts by the teachers, who have faced significant challenges in securing permanent roles despite their contributions to the education system. The teachers, primarily based in Trivandrum district, have been engaged in a protracted struggle for permanent employment. Over the past 15 years, more than 700 part-time educators have participated in continuous protests, demanding stable positions. Their efforts culminated in a two-week sit-in at the Tamil Nadu School Education Department in December, where they faced daily arrests by police. Despite these confrontations, the government has remained unresponsive to their calls for permanent appointments, leaving the teachers in a precarious situation. In a recent development, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh announced a salary increment for the part-time teachers, addressing some of their grievances. According to the announcement, the teachers will receive an additional Rs. 2,500 as part of their monthly salary. This increment, combined with the settlement of outstanding arrears, marks a significant step toward resolving the teachers' financial concerns. The two-month salary arrears, totaling Rs. 5,000, were deposited into the teachers' bank accounts on the previous day, providing immediate relief to the affected educators.#tamil_nadu #tamil_nadu_school_education_department #trivandrum_district #tamil_nadu_school_education_minister #anbil_mahesh
