Vashu Bhagnani Slams David Dhawan Over Rs 27 Cr Loss on Coolie No 1: ‘Paid Him 70 Cr, Not His Worth’ Veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani criticized filmmaker David Dhawan during a virtual press conference, accusing him of failing to address the financial losses from the 2020 film Coolie No 1. Bhagnani claimed the project suffered a loss of approximately Rs 27 crore and that he had invested nearly Rs 70 crore into the production, which he argued was not justified by Dhawan’s contribution. He stated that Dhawan, who oversaw the production and expenses, never acknowledged the financial burden or compensated him for the losses. Bhagnani recounted the circumstances of Coolie No 1, explaining that the film was intended as a sequel to his earlier work Biwi No 1. During the pandemic, Dhawan assured Bhagnani that any losses from Coolie No 1 would be addressed in the future, with the goal of proceeding with Biwi No 1. However, the project faced delays as the script for Biwi No 1 was not finalized. Bhagnani noted that he chose not to rush the creative process, allowing the script to be completed at its own pace. The dispute escalated when Bhagnani discovered that the song “Chunari Chunari” from Biwi No 1 was reused in David Dhawan’s film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde. Bhagnani confronted Dhawan about the unauthorized use of the song, expressing frustration over the lack of acknowledgment or compensation. He revealed that he had contacted Dhawan three months after learning of the reuse, only to find that Ramesh Taurani, a producer associated with Tips Industries, had partnered with Dhawan to create a new film. Despite his efforts to stop the reuse, Bhagnani admitted he could not prevent the situation, as the film had already been released.#david_dhawan #hai_jawani_toh_ishq_hona_hai #vashu_bhagnani #biwi_no_1 #tips_industries
