The incident occurred during the second ODI in Bready on Friday, where Omarzai was found guilty of showing dissent at an umpire’s decision, violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The breach took place in the 41st over of Afghanistan’s innings when Omarzai remained at the crease for an extended period after being given out. He expressed his displeasure through gestures, which the umpires deemed a violation of the code. A single demerit point was added to Omarzai’s disciplinary record, marking his first offense within a 24-month period. The ICC noted that Omarzai admitted to the breach and accepted the sanction proposed by Dean Cosker, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thereby avoiding a formal hearing. The on-field umpires, Gareth Morrison and Roly Black, along with third umpire Johnny Kennedy and fourth umpire George Brolly, levied the charge against Omarzai. Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, with one or two demerit points added to the player’s record. The ICC’s disciplinary framework outlines that accumulating four or more demerit points within 24 months converts them into suspension points. A suspension point equates to a ban from one Test match or two ODIs or two T20 Internationals, depending on the player’s schedule.
