UP Police Training Overhaul: DySPs to Train with Civil Servants for First Time The Uttar Pradesh police training program for deputy superintendents of police (DySPs) is undergoing a significant transformation, with the first-ever inclusion of civil service officers in the curriculum. Starting August 16, 17 new DySPs will begin their training at the Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Police Academy in Muradabad. This marks a shift from previous protocols, where DySPs underwent training primarily within the police framework. The revised training schedule extends the duration of DySP training from 18 months to 22 months. A key change involves a two-month stint at the Uttar Pradesh Administrative and Management Academy in Lucknow, where DySPs will collaborate with civil service officers. This initiative aims to foster better coordination between the police and administrative departments, ensuring seamless operations when officers are deployed in the field. The training structure now includes a 13-month academic phase at the Lucknow academy, followed by six months of field training, and a final one-month session at the Muradabad academy. After completing the program, DySPs will be posted to their respective districts. This extended training period is part of reforms introduced by DG Training Rajeev Sabharwal, who emphasized the need for enhanced interdepartmental collaboration. The administrative academy, which also hosts training for other police departments, will see DySPs working alongside public prosecution service (PPS) officers. Officials believe that this integrated approach will reduce bureaucratic hurdles and improve efficiency in handling complex cases.
