School Boy Designs Four-Chamber Fuel Tank with Fire-Fighting System, Wins UK Patent A 15-year-old schoolboy from Amravati, Avanish Bavaskar, has made headlines after designing a four-chamber fuel tank with an inbuilt fire-fighting system that automatically activates upon detecting fuel fumes. The invention, which earned him a UK patent, was inspired by a tragic incident on the Samruddhi Expressway in 2023, where a bus fire claimed 25 lives. The event left Avanish deeply affected, prompting him to focus on creating a safer fuel storage solution for vehicles. The fuel tank’s design features four inter-connected chambers that distribute fuel load evenly while ensuring a continuous flow. Avanish’s prototype incorporates three layers: the first made of common metal, the second composed of silica, and the third constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). A sensor embedded in the system detects fuel fumes and triggers the fire-fighting mechanism, which suppresses the blaze within the tank and prevents catastrophic accidents. Avanish, who presented his invention at the Viksit Bharat Start-Up event in Nagpur, has already built a working prototype and demonstrated it to automobile engineers. Many of them have expressed confidence in its functionality, though he is now seeking funding to further develop the technology. “I have shown it to many automobile engineers, and they say this can work,” he said, reflecting the enthusiasm of a young innovator. The invention is currently in the advanced stages of consideration for an Indian patent, marking a significant milestone for Avanish. His project highlights the potential of youth-driven innovation in addressing real-world safety challenges.#nagpur #avanish_bavaskar #samruddhi_expressway #viksit_bharat_start_up #indian_patent
