The ticketed event, titled ROOTS, was held at the Uday Samudra Convention Centre in Thiruvananthapuram and attracted over 750 attendees. The initiative aimed to engage younger audiences by reimagining classic bhajans in a modern, interactive format. Naveen Mohan, one of the lead singers of the group, shared that the event’s response exceeded expectations. “We were initially worried about how the crowd would react, but the energy of the audience from the first song made us forget we had been standing for hours,” he said. The group emphasized that the event was designed to connect with youth through music, incorporating elements like a survey where attendees answered multiple-choice questions about their perceptions of life. Their responses, displayed on an LED wall via QR codes, revealed shared challenges, fostering a sense of community. The event featured a mix of traditional and medley-style songs, including “Devadhi deva,” “Darikante sirassu,” “Andar Rama,” and “Vadakkumnatha.” The crowd’s enthusiasm peaked during performances of “Pamba Ganapthy” and “Siyapathi,” which concluded the evening. Notable moments included a surprise appearance by actor-director-singer Vineeth Sreenivasan, who performed renditions of his popular tracks, including “Omal kanmani” with a new orchestration. Audience members praised the innovative approach.
