Vizhupuram Students Protest Over Admission Disputes Students and parents in Vizhupuram district have staged protests after failing to secure seats in government colleges despite meeting eligibility criteria. The demonstrations, held at the entrances of the Vizhupuram Annamalai Arts and Science College and the Vizhupuram Women’s College, highlighted concerns over alleged unfair admission practices. Over 50 female students reportedly arrived at the Women’s College with their documents, only to be denied admission as all seats had been allocated. The protests followed claims that the current administration has abandoned the previous policy of reserving 20% additional seats for admissions, which was implemented in prior years. Students argued that the admission process has become opaque, with decisions now influenced by political recommendations rather than merit-based criteria. They accused authorities of favoring candidates with lower scores over those with higher marks, citing instances where students with scores below the cutoff were admitted while others with higher scores were turned away. Parents expressed frustration over the lack of transparency, noting that the admission process has deviated from its intended fairness. They highlighted that the number of applications far exceeds the available seats, with approximately 1.25 lakh seats in 192 government colleges across Tamil Nadu receiving lakhs of applications. The current system, they claimed, has led to widespread confusion and frustration, with students and parents forced to resort to protests to demand accountability. Authorities, including the district collector and college administrators, were reportedly involved in mediating the situation.#tamil_nadu #district_collector #vizhupuram_district #vizhupuram_annamalai_arts_and_science_college #vizhupuram_womens_college
