Norway Sets New Monthly Record for Electric Vehicle Registrations Norway has achieved a new milestone in its transition to electric vehicles, with electric cars accounting for 98.6 percent of all new passenger car registrations in April. Out of the 11,103 new passenger cars registered, 10,952 were fully electric, marking a slight year-on-year increase for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) despite a 1.6 percent decline in total car registrations compared to April 2025. This record follows previous months where Norway had already surpassed 98 percent BEV market share in February and 98.4 percent in March. The latest figures represent an unprecedented achievement, with the BEV share exceeding 95 percent across all provinces. The highest concentration of electric vehicle adoption was observed in Østfold, where the share reached 99.3 percent, while even in the northernmost region of Finnmark, the BEV share stood at 95.1 percent. The data from Norway’s Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) highlights the rapid shift toward electrification, with diesel and petrol vehicles making up a negligible portion of the market. Specifically, 87 new diesel cars accounted for 0.78 percent of registrations, 31 petrol cars represented 0.28 percent, and 20 petrol plug-in hybrids made up 0.18 percent. Petrol full hybrids and diesel plug-in hybrids, with eight and five sales respectively, each held less than 0.1 percent of the market. OFV Director Geir Inge Stokke emphasized the significance of the milestone, stating, “For the first time, we are seeing two consecutive records for electric cars. With over 95 percent of new cars being electric across all counties, there is no doubt that most Norwegians are choosing a BEV when purchasing a new vehicle.#norway #ofv #geir_inge_stokke #volkswagen_id_4 #toyota_bz4x
